Difficulty:

Category: Other

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Classic

Materials

Flag-folded raw silk, dyed and overdyed three times. With needlefelted wool chain embellishment.

What was your inspiration?

The way the silk takes the gorgeous color.

What are you most proud of?

I love the needlefelting combined with the silk texture and colors.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Do the dyeing first and get the background you like - then think about how additional decoration would look.

Love your dye results. I agree the felting on silk is beautiful with nice contrasts. Cotton can be trickier to combine with needle felting...there's just something about silk :)

IT helps to use a silk with some thickness and "tooth" like this raw silk. I would guess that cotton and the smoother silk surfaces are problematc with the needlefelting because there isn't enough to "shred" together to ensure the felting will be permanent.
