I see in your instructions....about smoothing the back. I have a little tip. (if you click on my name you can see a pic of my chain saw one with the basting) I found a video on youtube about hand basting. its easy and quick and saves you a lot of bother. Once you have done it once you wont baste any other way. My last four quilts have been hand basted, what I did was lay my backing down then the batting, then the top. basted away, then you can do what you want with it, and trust me it wont move at all. I had bother with spray basting while it is great for small projects the bigger they are the worse it is trying to get all together. I would spend ages smoothing this way and that, and get very frustrated. This is merely a suggestion. if you would like to see the video let me know and I will add it for you
