Instructions

The pattern is very easy to follow. I changed it up a bit by removing one row from the side of the quilt. I also used free motion sewing to create hidden words randomly throughout the quilt. My kids names are stitched in, as well as a few holiday words.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Holiday

Materials

Reindeer Games collection by Sandy Gervais. The finished size is 65" x 65".

What was your inspiration?

I have used this pattern before and so I knew it was easy to make. When I first saw the Reindeer Games fabric collection, I knew that I wanted to be able to show a lot of the prints and the layer cake blocks were a good way to achieve this.

I also was inspired to sew "swirly-gigs" as the free motion top stitches. I did so based upon the fabric designs which have a lot of swirls in the prints. The swirly-gigs were so much fun to stitch out.

What are you most proud of?

The hidden words that are randomly stitched throughout the quilt.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Save your scraps - they can be used to make the binding! If you remove a row like I did, you will have several blocks left over. These blocks can be used to make a pillow top!

Great work. Love the words sewn into the quilt. That idea would make for a beautiful sick quilt; the kids could look for words in the quilt when stuck in bed.
