What was your inspiration?
A few years back, I wanted to give my nephew a quilt as a Christmas present. He was [and still is] really, really, really into the Cars movie, and I was able to find Cars fabric. Need I say more? LOL
I know, I know, I have an M.O. of quilting names on projects, but I just like it doing it, I can't seem to help it. :-)
What are you most proud of?
I do like personalizing the quilts with the name of who it's for. My nephew really liked his quilt so it's a good feeling that your work and efforts pay off when the recipient's face lights up at the gift. I heard one of my sister-in-law's family members comment how the quilt looked "professionally" made, and my brother and sister-in-law both thought I had commissioned the quilt, instead of making it myself. Don't know if that last one is a compliment. Hmmm. LOL LOL
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Think the design through before you start cutting. Between you and me, this is not my favorite or best work. The idea in my mind was to make the name "Gabriel" look like it was crossing the finish line in a race, but in the end, the effect did not really work - at least not for me. I realized this when the quilt top was done, but by then I was tired, Christmas was very close, and so I decided to leave it as is. Everyone else seemed to genuinely like it, though. Advice here is - In the end, it was still a great gift and I felt good giving it. For all future projects though, I have been more careful to really work the design out before I start cutting and sewing.
