What was your inspiration?
This was my first ever quilt! I looked through Quilter's Cache and it seemed a nice pattern. I made it in green to match my sofa, although the greens are a bit too olivey and I wish I'd used slightly more patterned fabrics to add interest.
What are you most proud of?
Spending six hours per block (I really was a beginner - my cutting and piecing have speeded up considerably since then), only discovering audiobooks halfway through the quilt, and not giving up out of boredom.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Practise it before you start and check that your measurements are dead on the inch for finished size. I found that you needed to add a thread or two's width in one direction for some seams, and in the other direction for others, though I can't for the life of me remember what the rules were for that.
Try out different options for sashing, or without sashing. I decided to put in sashing where I continued the lighter green lines through it, but not the darker green lines.
This is a quilt which looks better when you can see the whole thing at once. It wasn't the best choice for a sofa quilt, where you either see it scrunched up in use, or a small amount
of it when it's folded up, as it just looks like lots of straight lines in that situation.
