Materials

Soft worsted weight yarn, in 6 oz. (170 g) skeins [Boy - 4 skeins yellow, 2 each of blue and green; and Girl - 4 skeins yellow, 2 each of orange and pink]; and size I (5.50 mm) crochet hook.

What was your inspiration?

One of my nieces was having twins, a boy and girl. She and her husband really love the Caribbean, so I wanted to create something bright and colorful with a Caribbean theme.

What are you most proud of?

It's silly, but I love the cute little stuffed frog I found to photograph with the boy afghan! I love the way the afghans turned out, too!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

The animals, plants, etc., are cross-stitched on an afghan stitch (tunisian stitch) square. Be sure to weave in all the ends securely for baby's safety.

The squares are done separately and then crocheted together using a connect-as-you-go technique, so the only sewing is the cross-stitch.

The finished size is 44-1/2" square.

This is an easy pattern, available for $4.00, and is written in U.S. terms.
