Instructions
Buy white mini-envelopes (gift card size: 2 11/16 by 3 11/16 inches). Cut two pieces of cardboard 3 by 4 inches. (If the cardboard is thin, you might want to glue 2 pieces together for each side). For the bottom, cut one (or two) strips of cardboard 4" by 1" (or more, if desired). This will be for the bottom. If you want to fit in a lot of cards, you may want your strip to be more than 1" wide.
Outside case. Choose decorative paper for the outside, and cut a strip 5" wide, and long enough to fit the two 4" by 3" pieces, plus the strip for the center. Allow about 1/4" of space between the pieces to allow the sides to fold up. Line things up carefully, and glue everything down. A glue stick works well. Fold the edges in on all four sides and glue them down.
Inside case. Choose complementary decorative paper for the inside of the case and cut it to fit neatly on top of the cardboard pieces. Choose ribbon for the closure and glue it down in the center (running it lengthwise),, right on top of the cardboard. Glue the second piece of decorative paper over the ribbon, securing it firmly in place. Carefully crease the paper where the sides will fold up. A bone folder works well. This completes the outside case.
Inside file space. For the inside, use a scrap of cardboard to create a triangular template, and use it to cut a triangle out of each mini envelope. The number of envelopes you need will depend on how wide you made your bottom strip. After cutting the envelopes, apply a piece of doublestick tape to each envelope. Place it about in the center of the uncut area. Then, carefully align the envelopes and press them together.
Use doublestick tape to attach the first and last ones to the inside of the case.
