Cameron's Airplane Windows

Pattern Info

Pattern info for this project can be found here:

Instructions

I've seen the attic windows pattern in books and magazines, but did this without a pattern.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Cute

Materials

Cotton Fabrics

What was your inspiration?

I think when you do an attic windows pattern that you need to have something outside the windows to look at. My nephew that I made this for liked airplanes, so the airplanes were my inspiration.

What are you most proud of?

The final product.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't be afraid to use color. I always use bright, vivid colors, and when I am putting together the fabrics, I know it looks like they will never go together, but they always do.

Love this design, very 3D!!! I always thought quilts were supposed to be puffy - for warmth!!!! The puffiness adds to the 3D effect. I think it looks great. Well done doing this without a pattern, I don't use patterns, they just confuse me!

I'm so impressed at your color choices and playfulness in this quilt. When I look at it, I truly see an airplane show happening right outside the window! Fabulous job! :)

I don't care whether something is in or out,I have continued to use many "old" processes through the years, macrame, quirky vintage jewelery, rucshing in quilts for borders, and edges it's your quilt. Go for it! I love the attic windows, bravo.

I'm making one like this. Right now but with Helicopters! My great grandson loves them. However, he is only 17 months an loves to pull things so with his I've attached a black ribbon with a white strip down the middle an it appears or gives the illusion the first helio is pulling the others. I just hope I can get it done by Christmas lol. Your is beautiful an I love the puffy look too!!

Great job. I've been quilting for years & I don't think I would have the courage to try this block without a pattern. The batting you used gives the quilt alot of dimension! That helps bring the planes to life I think.

I don't think I would have put lace on a quilt for a boy, but other than that I think it is an awesome job. and I love the puffy look. Really a great achievement.

I would rather use poly batting in a childs quilt that will be loved, used, and washed regularly. It dries faster and holds up well to the use. The quilt police are banned from my premises unless their opion is the same as mine. lol It is my quilt afterall, for someone I love. Good looking quilt, 1 to be happy with.

Even though it isn't in fashion, when I make kids quilts, I like to use puffy batting, because I like the look it creates.

I think there are times like in this quilt when a fat batting adds texture and interst. Great job.
