What was your inspiration?

I had dabbled in patchwork/quilting, including making a quilt for my daughter when I signed up to do a 'Beginner's Sampler' course at my local quilt shop. My eldest son asked if he could have a quilt too, and we chose a 'universe' theme because we thought he wouldn't grown out of the quilt as quickly!

What are you most proud of?

How the finished product looks, how much my son loves his quilt, and the fact that I used up lots of bits and pieces to make the back of the quilt.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't let the fear of it not turning out exactly perfect stop you from having a go. When the blocks are all together you don't notice the parts you didn't quite get right! "Finished is better than perfect" is my motto.

Don't be surprised if Caleb takes this treasure off to college with him someday! Kids and their quilts seem to develop quite a bond. Most new quilters wouldn't dream of tackling an attic windows block--and yours turned out perfect! Good for you. Welcome to the wonderful world of qulting...you will find many kindred spirits along your journey.

I love how you carried the universe fabric throughout the blocks. It looks like you are peeking through to the night sky. I too like your motto of finished is better than perfect. I am on my 2nd quilt and trying to resist the urge to go back and re-do things that aren't quite right. I just need to finish it! :-)

Wow! Beautiful and shows that some of the old patterns can look as good as the newer "art" quilts. Not that this isn't art too! Love your philosophy! Finished IS better than perfect!

Blocks look easy and others challenging. Good color use through out...mix and match keeps things interesting and moving along...look forward to attempting.

The quilt back is awesome as well as the front! Where did you get the pics? Did you download and print ?

The back of this quilt was originally a quilt panel in the galaxy range of fabrics that I'd used for the front. I chopped up the different pictures, added some blocks of fabric from the front too. The only part I printed was the label and the photo of my son & I. I like trying to tie the back in to the theme on the front. He thinks he has a double-sided quilt!

You're right! Finished is better than absolute perfection...so many times, I've fretted over things instead of enjoying myself and making a thing of beauty AND having more time to make MORE! Also, I LOVE the back. Those pieces are perfect there, and what a great way to use them. I'm sure your son will treasure it. Way to go!

love this quilt, fabrics are wonderful, i remember making a star/constellation quilt for my daughter 15-20 years ago, there was only one kind of starry fabric, glad they've come so far, i always say a finished quilt is a perfect one!!
