Need access to a refrigerator/freezer to cool the cake to make carving/shaping easier. Need a steady hand for brushing design on gum paste butterfly and in the piping of the lettering. It's hard to imagine this is a cake as it's so realistic. You are indeed very talented.

Thank you. After shaping the book part of this cake I not just crumb coated it but also built up areas so as to make it look as close to the real thing as I could. I used swiss butter cream for this. Delicious stuff that butter cream. I followed the Craftsy course on butter cream when making it. I then put the cake into the freezer for about 15 minutes-just to harden the butter cream. I carefully placed a sheet of paper on the rigid cake to get an accurate template for the pages. I then used a dedicated printer for icing sheets, which I bought through the Web site Icing Images to print pages from an actual Bible which I had earlier photographed. After placing the icing sheet with this edible image I placed the cake back into the freezer to harden the butter cream so that I could use a fan brush to apply the edging color that was mixed with alcohol. No luster dust was used.

How did you get the words up there did you hand write all of it or is that an edible image? If so where did you get it from and also how did you do the edges of the bible meaning is that luster dust. Thank you for you answer I have a friend who would love to have a cake like this but I have no idea how to get the bible verses up there.

If you call looking at how a book opens then yes. But when rerigerated, the cake becomes stiffer and is able to shape without having too many crumbs. After shaping then I crumb coated the basic shape with buttercream. Back into the refrigerator to stiffin the cake then I added more buttercream to create the final shape. mThen back into the refrigerator to stiffin again. Once out then I was able to add the coloring without messing up the buttercream basic shape.
