What was your inspiration?
I found several video tutorials for making Byzantine weave chainmail on YouTube, and this started out as a practice piece. I thought the "mosaic turquoise" (a manufactured/assembled gemstone) looked very good with the chainmail.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
The only tricky thing about these earrings is learning the Byzantine weave; the rest is just basic jewelry skills. The tutorial videos on YouTube that I found most useful are "How to Byzantine Chainmaille Tutorial" by mikeyssmail, and "Weaving Byzantine Chainmail v.2" by ryzellon. The latter is a demonstration only (no voice-over or instructions), but clearly shows -- with giant rings -- what I think is the easiest way of weaving Byzantine chainmail.
