Bruce Campbell's Challenge

Jun 18, 2012

The reward.
The challenge.
Jun 18, 2012

Instructions

Perhaps if he likes the strings enough, he'll release the pattern for sale.

I got to his teeth, and I realized, there isn't a high enough difficulty level for this project...

Difficulty:

Category: Crocheting

For: Other

Style: Casual, Mod, Whimsical

Materials

Embroidery floss and a 1 mm hook.

What was your inspiration?

I just wrote to him on Twitter, asking if he had a picture he'd like crocheted (and of course including Captain America as a sample), and assuring him that his should come out better (theoretically it should, but we shall see). Unexpectedly, only a few minutes later, he wrote back with a picture...so I set myself a deadline.

What are you most proud of?

I can push myself just past my limit and get it done on time. Actually it's a little late, but losing the first day wasn't entirely my fault.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Prepare your spider-fingers...there will be webs!

Wow so you use embroidery floss rather than yarn? I've got to try that! I have only used yarn for portraits but there are not many varieties of colors to match a picture.

Indeed, I managed to find 5 shades of gray in yarn, but not many life colors. The only thing about floss is that it can be difficult to hold while weaving, or see if you aren't used to it :) I've gotten out of practice since discovering those grays...

Do you have software that allows you to make a pattern from pics? This is absolutely awesome!!! I've got to learn how to do this, my family would love it!

I use software, but I go the long way as if I were doing it on paper...Photoshop and the pen tool can do it, although I skip the pen tool and use Blender (3D program).
