Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Drab to Fab Furniture Upcycling »

Instructions

After doing a small test, I found that even with the Ultra Bond the milk paint was not adhering well to the cleaned varnish -- so I opted to completely strip the piece first.

Difficulty:

Category: Other

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Retro / Vintage

Materials

Eco friendly stripper, milk paint with ultra bond, sandpaper and furniture wax.

What was your inspiration?

I found the absolute PERFECT old library shelf for my hallway. It was a steal of a deal -- just the wrong color! I remembered looking at shelves which had been painted white with color in the back and thought I could do the same with this beast...

What are you most proud of?

I managed to strip, repaint and reseal this within 1 week during evenings and over the weekend.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Take your time to test and make sure that the new paint will adhere. If not, take the time to strip it because it will be worth it in the end.

Love it! I just did a similar project but wish I had distressed it somewhat like you did - gives it much more character.
