What advice would you give someone starting this project? Fitting of a sundress is critical, so I'd strongly advise making the bodice in muslin first and get it fitted perfectly for the individual who will wear it.

the black lines is separate parts of stuff or is the design of the hole staff?

The black lines in the skirt are all separate pieces of fabric. I believe these "sashing" strips finished to one-half inch wide. The skirt is made basically the same as a quilt top made of patchwork squares that is set on the diagonal with sashing between patches.

The skirt is just freaking me out. I'm afraid, I'll make it more complicated then it needs to be. I'll settle down. 6 or 8"inch blocks ? I have a "Retro" style halter dress pattern that should work -- New Year project ' Thank you

I no longer have notes on the design, but I seem to recall that the colored squares finished to 7 inches, though I could be wrong and it might have been 8. Just decide how long you want the patchwork part of the skirt to be and calculate how many squares high you want the design. Remember that to get the diagonal of the square, you multiply the square side size by 1.414. And don't forget to allow for the black sashing. I believe the sashing was 1/2 inch in width, but you could make it whatever looks good to you.
