What was your inspiration?
I'd seen the "Bright Hopes" traditional block somewhere and decided to try it out in a charity quilt top. I thought it might be fun to transition the colors across the quilt rather than to have all blocks alike.
What are you most proud of?
I didn't have enough of any one color of inexpensive fabric that was a reasonable match to do a border, so I gave a try to using two colors. I think it worked out quite well since the color varies across the quilt anyway. And it gives a bit of three-dimensional look to the quilt top.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
For beginners - Beware that this block, though actually quite easy, does require partial seaming. Here is one set of directions of how to do it: http://quilting.about.com/od/piecingtechniques/ss/partial_seams.htm
