Pattern Info

Pattern info for this project can be found here:
vest-Simplicity 1786, skirt- Simplicity 4384, some alterations by me

Instructions

i turned both of these into reversible garments- just sew the 2nd fabric for the vest like a lining except used an invisible seam to close after turning it right side out
used bias tape to cover the seam between the waistband and the body of the skirt,

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Girls

Style: Funky, Traditional, Whimsical, Classic, Cute, Casual

Materials

cotton fabric, thread

What was your inspiration?

Bree wanted to wear the necklace her daddy brought back from Colorado for her- its glass beaded red & black with kitty head beads, found a cute pawprint fabric in exactly the right colors-
if only i had remembered i used up the black lining i thought i had at home-after going through the entire stash of fabric i decided to just wing the outfit into a reversible outfit using another red based fabric so the colors would work

What are you most proud of?

that i found just enough bias tape to cover the seam between the waistband and the body of the skirt- also happy to discover how much nicer the weight of the skirt is with 2 layers of fabric, i might have to make this skirt reversible from now on!!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

just think about other possibilities if you've found you are missing something vital to the pattern (like a lining fabric...lol)

The reversible lining looks great, and it's so practical for a child. Spill something, and switch it around. Very cute little dress and perfect for school, too.
