What advice would you give someone starting this project? I had a little trouble with the tension across the ends and ended up going over the seams twice. I thought I measured the box corners, but obviously not accurate enough as they are uneven. It was a good first go and it will get use as a knitting project bag but I will make it again to fix those issues.

I think it looks great! Going over the bag seams twice is perfectly fine if it makes it a more attractive and stable stitch. The corners can be tricky, but it gets easier to make them as you continue to make the bags. I use mine for knitting all the time! Several students have made long bags by putting the zipper on the opposite end of the fabric and it's perfect for storing long needles. One student even put a grommet in the top of her bag so her yarn would easily feed outside of it. Great job!
