Hydrangea Radiance Fabric,

What was your inspiration?

I wanted to make a quilt for my daughter Lou and son-in-law Louie, who run a photography business, for use on their engagement shoots as their style is vintage and they love to use outdoor light. I saw this pattern and then fell in love with this fabric, especially as Lou's favourite flowers are Hydrangea and she had them in her wedding bouquet.
This was a real labour of love as I hand quilted it and took forever!

What are you most proud of?

My first laptop quilt (62'x62') and the first time I completed a quilt using a bought pattern :))))))

I did not have enough fabric for the back of my quilt, so I used up some of the left over fabric from the quilt top and now they kind of have to quilts to choose from:) I'm also very chuffed when I see the '2 Lou's' pictures of the e-shoots using my quilt.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I didn't realise the importance of having a larger backing fabric so when I sandwiched it together is was to small... so I made a pattern on the back of the quilt using two different fabrics... the last border was narrow and very uneven, but hey I have learned from that and that is what's fun about quilting!

That's lovely - and how clever of you to get the back so even - when I try to make special backings for my quilts, despite hauling them about all over the place, they always seem to come out a bit wonky!

Thanks Pat, this backing came by accident as I had not enough of the one material so decided to make a patterned back so they would have a choice for their shoots. I now know, thanks to Pam, that its called Back Art:)

What a special quilt!! Congratulations on completing it by hand - that sounds like a lot of work! Personally, I stick to machines; quilting by hand sounds much too intimidating!
