Instructions

Make your special pattern front piece, cut a backing piece, sew right side together, leave a space to turn it right side (very fiddly). Trim corners. Turn right side out and top stitch, stitch in ditch, stipple! My MOTTO - "there are no rules, only your rules!"

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Unisex

Style: Funky, Outdoorsy, Ethnic, Romantic, Rock / Punk, Preppy, Holiday, Religious, Classic, Retro / Vintage, Whimsical, Geeky, Cute, Traditional, Casual, Goth, Hipster, Eco-Friendly

Materials

Scraps of cotton from other projects.

What was your inspiration?

I read a lot and I have given a few of these away, Just something to do in between projects. Keep planning to make more but other projects get in my way.

You can make them to suit individuals! Boys, girls, men, ladies, nanna's, teachers, friends, musos, chefs, gardeners, the list goes on!

What are you most proud of?

Everyone who has seen this project is wondering why no-one had thought of it before. These are long lasting and they are pretty.

Just a small gift to put a smile on people's faces that they can use.

Because it is only small friends don't feel obligated to do anything in return which is good.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Just sit and have a fiddle. It is a project that can be fulfilling in between other things.

Christmas is just around the corner - these are whipped up very quickly. Excellent gift for children's teachers or small gifts for stocking fillers.

Just don't forget to take it out of the book when you have finished reading it - I did that and the book went back to the library!

I always carry some kind of bookmarks in my bible. These would really be nice for my church family. I always have leftover material scraps from quilting, now they can be put to good use.

Can you use a piece of cardboard like what is on back of a spiral notebook to make it a little more stable?

I'm a journaler and a reader. I think this is a great idea. Would be fun to write a quote on the back using muslin. Thanks! Visit my web-site sometime, if you would like, or fb me. http://lilliangaffney.com

I haven't used anything for the inside because it would make them too thick. Just make your patchwork piece and use a plain back.

to avoid the hassle turning the envelope, just stitch 1/4 from the edges and let it fray or use a decorative stitch on your sewing machine or better yet serge it! I am going to make some today.. great idea. Thanks

Reminds me of my Grammy's Bible markers from wa a ay back. She would use the scraps from the quilts or aprons she made and use them for markers in her Bible. Sometimes on the backs, she would have a written note. A "gotta make' project, for sure.

All you need is imagination. Just sew scraps together, make a pattern or do them randomly, Make it the size of a regular bookmark. YOU decide the pattern and the size.

This is the perfect project for kids! Quick and easy enough to hold their attention but creative enough to help them feel totally fulfilled!! My 11 yr. old is going to do these at her next sleepover. Can't wait to post the results! Thank you

What is the finished size of these?
Tandunn on craftsy.com
Sep 14, 2011   Flag as inappropriate
They can be any size you want them to be. I try to make them roughly the size of a normal bookmark (but what size is a normal bookmark). There are no rules - only your rules.. The pink one was supposed to be something else but it went wrong so I folded it half and it turned into a bookmark! Just have a fiddle and enjoy!
