This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sew Retro: Perfect Fit Bombshell Dress »

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Classic, Casual, Cute, Retro / Vintage, Romantic, Traditional

Materials

High Society Hannah by Khristian A Howell for Anthology Fabrics (2 yards in the Petal colourway) ; bought on sale at Sew Mama Sew for $4.25/yard.

What was your inspiration?

This was the first Craftsy class I signed up for in 2011, but I really got motivated to finish my dress after I met Gretchen Hirsch at Sewing Summit last year. She was super nice!

What are you most proud of?

This dress is a re-fashion of a dress that I made last year that I loved, but which was a lot too big this year. I'm really proud of being able to adapt the old dress using this new pattern. Also, this was my first time using boning, and it worked out really well!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Just take it step by step. It's easy to get overwhelmed at the beginning with all the materials you need and all the pattern pieces, but Gretchen's instructions are really great!

Wow it looks so nice. I am hopeful after seeing your pic 1 that maybe with more work I can get my muslin fitting better. Yours results speak to your hard work.

It's completely worth it to keep working on that muslin until it's just how you want it! You can do it!

Thanks! I forgot to comment on the One Week One Thing last Monday, so wasn't able to add it to the finished projects today! Hopefully I will remember the next time I make this dress :)

Thanks! And thank you for your great advice about adding length to the bottom cup pieces, Adriana! I actually went back and redid the cups right before I sewed the lining in (after inserting the zip) and I'm so glad I did. The fit is much better, thanks to you :)

I just purchased this class and am getting my supplies together. I am looking at the photos of people's completed projects and notice that the cups on your dress seem more covering than the others. I like your version much better. What specifically did you change and how did you make the changes?
