Sew Retro: Perfect Fit Bombshell Dress »

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Retro / Vintage, Cute

Materials

Cotton/poly blend for face fabric, Underlined with silk organza and cotton batiste. Cotton batiste for the the lining and spiral steel for the boning.

What was your inspiration?

A post Gretchen did on Alfred Shaheen dresses. I loved them! I was a little skeptical about making such a dress for someone of my age and size, but am really happy with the way it turned out.

What are you most proud of?

I'm delighted with the lapped zipper and the boning. The lapped zipper because beforehand I thought it would be terribly difficult, but ended up with a very nice looking application by following Gertie's thorough explanations, and the boning because it's something I never even knew I'd like.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Plan for this to take a while. It's a fairly involved project, especially if you have a lot of fitting to do as I did, but Gertie's instruction is excellent and the end result is definitely worthwhile.
