Definitely take the time to make your muslin. I had to make 3 for my daughter. She has a very narrow ribcage, and a small bust. I also added an inch to the top, it was too low in the first muslin. I am so impressed with how well it ended up fitting her. This dress was made for her Homecoming dance. I would never have attempted sewing this if not for the Craftsy Class. Materials
A shiny red polyester brocade from Joann.
What was your inspiration?
Gretchen's red bombshell dress was our inspiration. When Sydney saw it she wanted something very similar. When she saw this brocade at Joanns she fell in love immediately.
What are you most proud of?
That the dress fits so well. It literally fits her like a glove! I am also proud of the fact that I was able to make the dress look so nice with this fabric. It was polyester and a pain in the butt to sew. I had to hand baste most of the bodice seams first because the fabric was so slippery.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Just do it! Gretchen's instructing is so good and thorough. I was so confident after taking this course that I made one of her best friend's homecoming dress as well. I used a difficult Vogue (V1174) pattern and even added a lace overlay and it came out great. I would have never attempted something like this pattern if I hadn't taken Gretchen's course first
