What are you most proud of? Yay, I finished! Well, the top and back anyway. This is my first ever quilt project. I have sewn for years but always considered patchwork too fiddly and time consuming but when I found this course in September last year I decided I could do it. I definitely have the skills and one block at a time sounded manageable. And doing a whole variety was a good introduction. Now I'm doing the 2013 BOM and a bunch of others too! I thought I would use a plain fabric for the sashing but when I laid the blocks out on plain fabric it just didn't zing! I tried a few different patterned fabrics until I found the right one. I wanted this to fit our queen size bed so I used wider sashing than Amy did and added several borders until I got the size I wanted. It also used up a bit more of the leftover fabric. I had already had the idea that I would use up the leftover fabric for the blocks to make the back but I had not idea how I was going to do it. The I found the Craftsy Creative Quilt Backs course and my problem was solved! I spent a happy day cutting the leftovers into usable chunks and then laying them out out on the lounge floor and moving them around till they fit. I also had a heap of strings leftover so I made a giant wonky log cabin block and added that. I gave it a white border so it would stand out. At first I laid the pieces out with quite a lot of overlap so I thought I might have to add more fabric but as I sewed them together they spread out and I only needed to add a small strip along the bottom, which will probably end up being cut off after quilting. Now I need the time to quilt it. I've watched Leah Day's FMQ a Sampler course and will do that at some stage.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Have fun. It's a great taster of lots of different techniques and Amy is such a great teacher.

Beautiful! Love that shade of blue. Like the thin border as well! Good luck with the quilting!

I have signed up for and previewed the first two blocks of this class. This finished project inspires me to get started on mine. I love the "country blue" and deep red/burgandy.

This is gorgeous! I love how the blue sashing makes your blocks pop. So fresh and bright. You have an eye for combining fabrics, that's for sure!
