Quilting: BOM Colorful

BOM Colorful

border,binding, backing

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Free Motion Quilting a Sampler »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Casual

Materials

cotton fabrics ( Terrain by Kate Spain), Isacord & Bottomline threads

What was your inspiration?

Craftsy 2012 BOM, Leah Day's class, Cindy Needham's class, Kimmy's filler & star, & the woven border from the Paper Piecing class

What are you most proud of?

The quilt is all nice & crinkly from being washed & dried
I love the woven border & will use it again
I tried all kinds of FMQ motifs - the Hex stripe block was an experiment in scale - I used Leah's feather filler (thanks to Cindy Needham), small at the top & getting bigger as I went

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Do take your time
I discovered that I am not very fond of high contrast quilting thread colors, but I do like slight contrast in the quilting thread color - but I did like the variegated thread in the border

Love this I just started the 2012 BOM at the beginning of this year when I "found" the Craftsy website. I have almost finished my 2012 Dr Seuss and have been agonising over how to piece the blocks together. Your slashing is a winner and Thankyou for sharing

Thank you! This fabric line made me look at a brighter palette than my usual. Now I'm thinking hot pink, bright orange, apple green - way different for me. Go for the color!

Yes, Wallace is a Westie. How nice that you have a Scottish cousin. Aren't terriers the best? Do Scotties have an attitude like Westies? (Known as Westitude) - loved what an announcer at a dog show said: They have no small amount of self-esteem.

Gorgeous Darns! I'm getting inspired to do a 2nd BOM. I LOVE the basketweave sashing and that curved piece block is a real beauty. Did you do this one a block at a time? Your quilting is wonderful! Great work!!!

Dec 18, 2012   Flag as inappropriate
Thank you, Jean! I wonder what they have in store for the 2013 BOM. Not one block at a time - I put the whole quilt top together then sandwiched & quilted - lots of quilt wrestling as my machine really doesn't like to go backwards especially with the thinner threads.
