I will post, I promise! My laptop died, so i won't be posting until I replace it (sneaking a comment in at work). I am almost finished with Cleopatra's puzzle, and I have the last two blocks to complete yet. I'm undecided about quilting as yet. With the black background I'm not sure if I want to use black quilting thread, or something else. And I *may* decide to QAYG instead of assemblying the whole quilt and then quilting. Eventually I think it'll be a wall hanging (as I have a grey cat!)

Thanks everybody - we are all well and safe in Southern Maine (USA). We always lose power if a cloud passes over, but this time we had "flickers" only and rain/strong winds did very little damage. We are blesssed indeed. We might get thunderstorms tonight, but no serious expectations. My heart goes out to New York, New Jersey, etc....it will take weeks and months for normal to return to some areas. Stay safe

So glad you are safe! This gives new meaning to your handle! "Surfside"... are we all invited for lobster? :D Very happy you are safe.

I cannot buy more background unfortunately. I must have had this large piece for 15 years waiting for the perfect project. It was too pretty to cut! What a dope I am...I have a few fabrics I don't want to cut. As I await the arrival of "Sandy" here on the East Coast, I have been working with my "Little Apple" jelly roll and charm pack. It's so much fun. I needed a break with something easy and I'm loving it

Yummy, yummy, Mo! I still have to do mine. Cutting it close (no pun intended) on enough background fabric.

I relate... I bought more background fabric. Mine is black (as you know) so I can use it for other things if I have too much.

Well if you find yourself saying "What was I thinking?" Don't blame me! :D My daughter (who doesn't quilt or sew) sent me an email of a curved piece quilt that she saw on a package of batting. LOL I got it this morning! I still have Cleo's block to do too.

Haha... I love her too! She found it in an ad, fell in love with it, took a picture of it with her phone and emailed it to me. Oh and it's not just curved piecing... it looks like those American beauty blocks with the long spikey triangles in it too! Oh Lordy! And then she follows it up by reminding me how much I love HER! (translation: Sucker!) I am too! :D

Thanks everyone! I still need a lot of practice with this one. I'm in awe of the curved piecers out there that do a whole quilt this way!

Oh, wow! Love the KF fabrics on the black! I think your quilt will glow in the dark! Yeah, these curved pieces were pretty tedious to do but worth it - don't think I'd make a whole drunkard's path quilt though -

Oct 28, 2012   Flag as inappropriate
I now know why they call it that! Totally sober, doing these blocks can drive you to drink! lol I thought the pieces were going together reasonably well, but they don't measure up right... and you know how frustrating it is to come up short on that 12.5" block!

I love your black background. It gives it an oxymoron look. (Old patterns created in a most modern look.) Actually, the Amish people quilt a lot with black. I have seen blocks of Amish quilts strung on lines at a quilt action in Wisconsin. It's amazing to see all the design and color.

The Amish quilts were the inspiration for my choosing the black background.. They are so colorful. I'd love to see them up close.

Some of these fabrics are so yummy you really DO want to eat them. I would have gotten into quilting a long time ago if these were available say in the 70's! LOL These fabrics are 'far out'

Thanks Pat in Suffolk UK! It probably won't be my last black quilt either. A lot of bang for your "pound" :D Plus the seam allowances don't show through, as they do on the white backgrounds.

The only thing is ... I've got a cream-coloured long-haired cat and as soon as I see anything black (clothes especitally), I get a vision of the item all covered in Rupert's hair!!!

I have a grey cat myself... I don't remember him being in my face so much as since I started quilting. I have my blocks in ziplock bags. If (I mean when) I finish this quilt, I may just hang it up on the wall. What is it will quilters and cats anyway? We all seem to have them.

Thank you Cheryl! This is my first quilt start to finish (along with a Dresden I'm working on for my mom). So I'm pleased. I started sewing in high school, making clothes. And I'm thinking I'd like to go back to it, after seeing your beautiful creations... couture touches and all!

hats off to my fellow BOM-ers who nailed this block... I thought this one was difficult to piece accurately.
