BOM - April 2012 - Hexy-pillar

Hexy-pillar wall hanging

Hexy-pillar wall hanging
WIP - may end up as a bag....

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Craftsy Block of the Month 2012 »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Children

Style: Cute, Funky, Whimsical

Materials

Fabric scraps, thread and cotton batting

What was your inspiration?

BOM Craftsy course and the giant catapillars I keep pulling off my citrus trees! I'm loving English paper piecing, so relaxing (and quiet compared to the machine) sitting in front of the TV and stitching away. Have got carried away with the black and white ones, I just couldn't stop, so I think I'm going to make a duffle type bag out of them. Will post once it's all stitched together.

What are you most proud of?

My little Lilly loves that it's a new piece of art for her wall, now to make a giraffe for Kate - not sure if that's going to be possible out of hexagons :)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Give it a go - so easy!!

thanks! I know what you mean - hexagons are far more flexible than I thought they would be! :)

I wish I hadn't seen this! I had got as far as sketching a caterpillar block, but not started sewing. But this is so much better than I was planning! I think I can help with the giraffe, though - I've posted a pic in the April BOM for you. :-)

We read that book regularly in this house, so it did influence me! :) As soon as I read your comment I actually saw for the first time an entire quilt of blocks of hexagon creatures - that would be fun! Thanks for the inspiration! :)

I can 'see' it w/ batiks of all colors. :) And, no, I think YOU gave the inspiration. I am writing that idea down and sketching your picture to do in the future so I have the pattern! :)
