Make It
Instructions
I got the binding technique from this blog because I was short on fabric, but didn't want to go buy more fabric: http://www.52quilts.com/2012/05/tuesday-tutorial-susies-magic-binding.htmlI still ended up going to the quilt shop because I was just a few inches short, but it was well worth it!

Bollywood Bliss fabric by Quilt Poetry, White Quilter's Sateen, Warm and Natural Cotton Batting, Thread, Two color Binding
What was your inspiration?
I went a bit out of my usual color choices with the two vibrant prints in the star and border - Bollywood Bliss in the Pink Sari colorway. I also chose an unusual fabric for the background - it's Quilter's Sateen. Has a lovely sheen to it, a bit of a challenge to work with as it frays a bit more than regular cotton, and also is a bit on the shifty side. Also a challenge to photograph! I love the results, a very rich looking and fun quilt.
What are you most proud of?
Instead of doing a simple stipple as I did for my first sample, I used some designs from the book "Doodle Quilting" by Cheryl Malkowski. It took me a little longer, but I love the results.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Look to the fabrics to inspire your quilting choice. I wanted something similar to the curly vines in the border fabric and found the perfect design to go with that! Also, if you want to try some different quilting designs, a busy fabric is a great way to practice. You can't really see the quilting in the border, but I was able to practice a new design there and because it doesn't show so I was able to feel confident about doing it without being absolutely perfect.
