What was your inspiration?

i've been a "beginner: teach-yourself" quilter for a while now and have mostly made quilts for friends and family. this one in particular i just finished this december for my brother who i dont get to see often as we live half the world apart. i wanted to make him soemthing to remind him of me more often as our lives are busy as it is and keeping in touch is a month to month deal. the project didnt come out perfect but its fully hand crafted and handstitched as i love the needlework:)

What are you most proud of?

i love applique and the braid pattern is my favourite thign to work with as it's my own pattern. i have a few other projects where the braid is long encasing the quilt as a border. there are so many variations to be made with the braid with length, width and direction/colors.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

the whole project took a little over a month to complete with about 3 hours of work a day. there is plenty of needlework as all the patterns are appliqued on and the braid is sewn piece by piece by hand as well. i prefer to stitch it by hand but if you are sure with your machine skills then thats ok too. as you can see its mostly jsut combining fabrics of your choice and size to match the blocks with the applique. the flower hawaii style pattern i recreated from an old pattern i remember seeing at a friends house who showed me the fold and cut of this particulat paternmaking. there are some hawaii style pattern books on the market as well.
