This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sewing With Knits: 5 Wardrobe Essentials »

Instructions

Again, I used the Renfrew pattern and shortened the torso and sleeves. Instead of trying to match the thread to the color of the fabric, I used ivory/off-white thread in my sewing machine and my serger. I'm not sure why the serged edge turned out so wavy, but it looks fine when I'm wearing it so no biggie.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Casual, Classic, Traditional

Materials

Blush/light mauve baby rib knit from fabric.com

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I did the opposite of what Meg does in the course, as far as attaching the neckband. I first sewed the V portion to get the difficult part out of the way, and then once I had it to my liking I continued sewing the rest of the way around.

Nice work! Good idea to do the neck the opposite way, I must try that!

Thank you! Here is a great video by Jalie patterns that shows an easy way to get a V neck to look right: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ft9h49p-9TI

I forgot to mention that I sewed the neckband seam the way that Meg does in the class, rather than overlapping the two ends as is shown in the Jalie video. The centered seam makes it look more like what you would find in a store, in my opinion.
