Blue Naughty Secretary Skirt

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sewing Studio: Fashion Fitting, Home Decor & More »

Instructions

I used the pattern that comes with Diana's Sew Everything Workshop book.

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Classic

Materials

Cotton sateen with 3% stretch

What was your inspiration?

Seeing all the women out there blogging about the great clothes they are making themselves--I really wanted to learn how to sew!

What are you most proud of?

Well, after successfully making the muslin, I measured the adjustments wrong and the first "real" garment ended up being a second muslin. So I am actually proud of myself for sticking with this project till the end--third time was the charm! I'm also happy I learned how to sew in an invisible zipper and slip stitch the whole waistband, hem and slit--I feel like that gave it a really professional looking result, so I'll definitely be wearing this skirt.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Diana's class is great-- I was a true beginner, and if you are patient you will learn a ton with this project!

Hi, well done you, I had a give up moment when I couldn't work out where I had gone wrong. I had altered my waist on my pattern after completing my toile and had managed to curve the top of the seams in, so when I put my bias on it wouldn't all lay flat - finally figured it out with Diana's help and on I went. Feels good doesn't it to finish x

Cute Skirt. You did a great job. I am glad you stuck with it. I haven't sewn in a very long time and was worried this class might be too hard for me, but you make me feel better about giving it a shot.
