Blue Angel Shawl taught by Stefanie Japel

This is what I call a “Faroese-ish” shawl. It has the traditional lace panel down the center back, which allows you to block the shawl so that the shoulders are “shaped” (see schematic) without ...

I had to do a lot of tinking back with this shawl before I got used to the lace pattern, which made it take much longer than it should have. Also, the lace border chart is not correct. Luckily I read the comments of others on the Ravelry workshop platform to find that out before I had a similar situation to my last Craftsy shawl. If you are making this pattern, go by the written out instructions for the lace border and it will work fine - not the chart.

Also, I really wish that the workshop had said more than bind off like normal until the points, then do a picot bind off. I took this to mean that I should just do a standard k1, pass 1st stitch over bind off, and that turned out to be WAY too tight. I even went up 3 needle sizes and stitched loosely, but I could barely pull the edge wide enough to make the top edge straight at the end. I honestly had to pull so hard I was afraid I would break the yarn and its still not perfect.

Unlike others have said, I had no problem at all with the picot bind off and I love how it came out :) When I got to the end of the 2nd repeat of the lace border (the point where the pattern says to bind off), I noticed that I had a lot more yarn left - 21 grams! So I added 2 more repeats of the lace pattern to use up the most yarn and I really love the result :) I think the border looks more balanced now, so if you have the yarn I would highly recommend adding to the lace border.

In spite of the issues I had making this, I really love the finished result and I love the yarn :) Pre-Blocking Size - 35 wide x 19 tall Finished Size - 43.5 wide x 21 tall
