Instructions

The bodice and umbrella is made of cake.

3 Day Class taught by Kaysie Lackey at Mother of Cakes in Allentown PA - It was an exhausting 40 hours crammed into 3 days but well worth it!!
I would definately sign up for more classes as my budget allows!!

Difficulty:

Category: Cake Decorating

Type of item: Food

For: Other

Style: Funky, Goth, Whimsical, Retro / Vintage, Classic, Cute

Materials

Cake, icing, modeling chocolate, fondant, food coloring, tylose, core board, wooden base, hardware for internal structure. You will need a carving knife, fondant tools, everclear or vodka, paintbrushes, stitching tool, dusting powders and lastly...lots of time and patients! Sorry to be so vague, but this was a paid 3 day class and I am unable to divulge all info related to the making of this cake - thank you for your understanding.

What was your inspiration?

I seen this cake class and had to go!! Kaysie Lackey, the instructor, has been on Food Network Challenges and she sketched & designed this cake herself (a little Tim Burton style).

What are you most proud of?

The whole project - it was an excellant learning experience with a great instructor! Also it traveled very well in a 3 1/2 hour car ride (the umbrella was removed for traveling).

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If you have a chance to go to a class that Kaysie Lackey is teaching - GO! It was well worth the money I spent.

You know Deanna5B I am going to do some research, my daughter lives in Pennsylvania, I am going to have her see how far is the school from her house.

Wow, love it. I wish I could take classes, but they are far away and so expensive, especially when you have to add the travel and lodging expenses. Wish they had classes here in NY,

Ya I know I cringe when I think of how much I spent to go to the class vs how much supplies I couldve bought with that much money! But they do monthly payments and I did some research for a good but cheaper hotel ($67 per nite) I did have to travel 10-15 minutes to class but I travel 25 min to work daily already so that didnt matter to me.
