Block of the Month #2

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Free Motion Quilting a Sampler »

Instructions

This quilt is actually a combination of Craftsy classes. Piecing the quilt blocks was part of the 2012 Block of the Month, the sashing was from Quick Strip Paper Piecing, and Leah Day's Free Motion Quilting a Sampler guided my quilting.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Whimsical, Cute, Casual

Materials

cottons, cotton batting, lots of thread

What was your inspiration?

Even though I'm not a beginning quilter, I've learned so much with this year -long quilt project. I made 24 blocks total based on the 2012 Block of the Month Craftsy course. These blocks were combined to make 2 quilts, of which this is the second one. I have already previously posted the first one. I greatly improved my free-motion quilting skills with Leah Day's "Free-Motion Quilting a Sampler" course. I find the Craftsy courses very inspirational.

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of my free-motion quilting on this quilt. I even tied and sunk all my thread ends - just like the professionals. :)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Pick a Craftsy course that you are interested in and just work through it step by step. You'll be amazed at what you can create.

This quilt is beautiful, the colours are great and I really like the sashing. I have completed all the blocks from the BOM course but I haven't yet decided if I will join them and quilt as a whole or if I will quilt the blocks and then join them. Which way did you do this?

I joined all the blocks and quilted it as a whole. Leah Day's craftsy class on free motion really helped me.

Love it. The sashing adds so much - another great idea I will definitely take away from this class. Thanks, Angie

Love the fabrics & quilting! Isn't that woven sashing a great idea? I also used it for one of my BOM quilts. Craftsy classes are so worth it!

You did a magnificent job. Colors are so soothing, too. I agree, these classes are the best. Encourages us and teaches us at the same time.
