Block 7

Beach balls, qulted!

Beach balls, qulted!

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Free Motion Quilting a Sampler »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Romantic, Traditional, Classic

Materials

Cotton fabric, polyester thread and wadding.

What was your inspiration?

Leah Day's course.

What are you most proud of?

Keeping the "beach balls" feel, by quilting spirals (although they're not very even!).

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

As most of us are putting our own interpretation on this block, look at it carefully first before deciding on exactly how you're going to quilt it.

Thank you - I'm not quite tired of the colours yet, although I've used them so much for various projects lately.

Patz, I have a friend that every time I use any form or shade of mauve ,wants it. According to her there is no such thing as too much mauve.

By no means perfect, but it's coming along. I haven't torn quite all my hair out yet!

U did all that stippling free motion? WOW! I've signed up for the course but have not started yet. I better get busy. Lovely job?

It's not stippling - it's "bubbles" - little circles, but I can't seem to make them larger like the ones demonstrated by Leah Day on the course - mine just seem to get smaller and smaller ...

Well clever clogs, you've been holding out on us big time! Forget learning to walk, just go straight to marathon running! I think you've given this block personality plus! Well done, I stand in awe :-)

Well - I suppose you could say that my FMQing is suffering for my wanting to run before I can walk! It's nowhere near as good as I would like it to be. I shall just have to put this project down to practice and hope no one looks at it too closely!

Well I can't see any suffering... all I see is progress... by the TON! You just carry on FMQ'g... oh and don't forget the 10 foot rule! After all nobody gets that close, they just stand back and ooooh and aaaaah like I am!

This is an awesome block. I like the way the stippling causes the circular areas to pop. this deviation from the original block design is most attractive to me.

Thank you. I didn't do any quilting in the middle as I thought the rather busy fabrics didn't need it. In any case, I've a feeling there was a bit of a "puff" there that might result in a pleat somewhere!!
