Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Free Motion Quilting a Sampler »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Traditional, Classic, Romantic

Materials

Cotton fabric and thread for piecing; polyester wadding and thread for quilting.

What was your inspiration?

Amy Gibson's and Leah Day's courses.

What are you most proud of?

Eventually getting the block to measure more or less the right size on the second attempt. The quilting was fairly simple, but I think quite effective.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Just take it slowly and enjoy yourself!

Thank you. The colours in the picture aren't very true, I'm afraid - the green is a much more vibrant lime green, in real life and the triangles that look blue are actually dark purple. However, I'm glad you like the ones in the photograph!

Thank you. It was my second attempt, but the only block out of the twenty that I actually did twice.

Thank you - the colours have come out a bit odd on this photo - my quilt doesn't have any blue in it apart from the fairies and some daisies, neither of which are part of this block!

do you use a flash when taking photos? I find that sometimes my colours are not what I thought they were in real life. but having said that some are quite brilliant, Ive tried several times to get it right then gave up and told everyone its actually this colour. we will use our imagination.

No - I don't use a flash - I usually wait for a sunny day (you can have a very long wait at this time of year here), put the block on the floor in front of my very large window, and photograph it there. I think the camera's at fault and, although I try to adjust the colour when cropping and editing, I don't seem to have a lot of success with some colours. The green is a really nice lime green, but it looks a bit wishy-washy in this picture.

and for far 8 days have passed in our so called summer, and probably one whole day we have seen the sun. and as for spring it sprung a leak, we have had horrible winds and rain......I find a darker place, like almost under my desk to do most photos. not all. doesnt mean it works any better.

Great FMQ! I love the contrast of the straight lines with the softly flowing lines.
