Block 12

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Free Motion Quilting a Sampler »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Traditional, Classic, Romantic

Materials

Cotton fabric, cotton thread for piecing, polyester thread for quilting and polyester wadding.

What was your inspiration?

Leah Day's Craftsy course.

What are you most proud of?

I'm pleased with the way the curly bits (can't remember what Leah called them) on the slashing came out. I learnt from my disasters with the feathers, and drew the little snails first a few times, which got me into the rhythm of sewing them. As the fabric in the background is quite "busy" I decided not to do the quilting as suggested by Leah, but just did some echoing in triangles instead.

I like how you used a combination of lines and swirls on this one. Very nice!!

Thank you - I chickened out when it came to the bits between the slashings and didn't do what Leah Day suggested in her course!

The idea for the little "snails" was from Leah Day's course, "Free Motion Quilting a Sampler" which is teaching me so much! I look forward to seeing your blocks when you've quilted them.

I quite liked doing those too - but only after I'd drawn them a few times on a bit of paper in order to get my head round them!

The swirls look a bit like snails to me!

I rather like snails especially when they're not in my garden, I especially like these ones! ;-)

Love your quilting, really made me sorry I didn't try it myself. Just sent mine out to the longarm quilter. Must practice, just signed up for Leah's class.

Thank you! Nor can I - but I think that's my failing - I'm in far too much of a hurry!
