Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Traditional

Materials

dupioni silk

What was your inspiration?

My great, great Aunt was a dressmaker and I love 19th century paintings so I tried to capture her in a moment of bliss, loving pet, cup of tea and a quilt.

What are you most proud of?

the way the fabric lent itslef to the look of a painting

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

spend time drawing til you get the right picture you want then make a pattern from there. After that let the fabric create what you want. I used lots of silk threads in this piece.

Absolutely amazing! It really looks like a picture! I have always wanted to attempt to make a quilt that resembles a picture, and other tips you may have would greatly appreciated. :)

I love 19th century art, it lends itself well to wonderful fabrics and colors. Look for soft muted colors. I went to the decorator shops to find drapery fabric, dupioni silks, etc. They have great remnnats too.

This is one of the most amazing things I've seen done with fabric. It's a work of art! It's gorgeous. I can hardly believe it's a quilt and not a painting! Even my husband said "oh wow"!

I really enjoy working with silk, it adds texture and dimension just by turning it a little. Does well with thread painting too
