What was your inspiration?

5 year old twins are having a birthday, so I struck a deal with the godfather - he buys the fabric, I'll do the work. he said yes! I wanted to make something personal and fun, so I thought up of a retro 80's video game theme, with their name somewhere in the quilt. After doing some online research on "old school" games, I came up with this design for one of the twins. Will post pictures of the quilt for the other twin soon.

What are you most proud of?

The colors just pop on the black background. I like that the name also stands out against the background, and the godfather is pleased with the quilt for his godchild. I always think that quilting the name of the person the quilt is for makes it personal and thoughtful. I also like that the letters have nice points that are crisp. I took my time on this one and made sure it was done right.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Use fabrics with bright colors and a little bit of a print for texture. Draw the design on graph paper until you like the way it looks, then measure and cut and sew carefully to get the best results.

you blew my Tetris game idea out of the water! Love the lost monster on the back side, and the lettering for the name is ACE! Terrence scored!

Thank you mo.sews. I think a Tetris quilt would be awesome, and if you don't want to do it anymore, then I just might. LOL

Love these! This one makes me think of Pacman and the other of Galaga.

That's exactly what I was going for - those 80's video games... without having to say so. LOL Thanks for noticing.

That is seriously awesome....but how did you put the name on the background? this might be a stupid question but I'm a beginner and it doesnt look like you used long strips...it looks like you put it on top of the black piece? love your quilts!

Thanks Mattymatty26. The name actually is long strips. I draw the name on graph paper then count squares for the name and the areas around the name. The diagonals for the "r", "n", and "e" are just half square triangles. But is is sewn in just like a regular design, that just happens to be a name. And it was not a stupid question!
