Materials

100% cottons in browns and reds. Pattern is from Blackbird Designs. All blocks were needleturn applique and then machine pieced. I also did the machine quilting.

What was your inspiration?

Red and brown fabrics...love the color and love working with fabric. I also like doing applique with Blackbird Designs because the pieces are fairly large and their style is casual so there is the freedom add or subtract pieces easily.

What are you most proud of?

Finding the joy in doing needleturn applique. Handwork is becoming a favorite part of quilting.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Do reading and research on different types of applique including machine applique. Choose the type that fits you and how quickly you want the quilt done. If you have never done applique you might want to join a class at your local quilt shop.
