Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sew Retro: Perfect Fit Bombshell Dress »

Instructions

Patience is a virtue? I gave myself a lot of time to get this completed...lots of hand sewing and I watched all the way through before beginning each step.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Funky, Retro / Vintage, Classic

Materials

Joel Dewberry cotton quilting/garment weight, muslin for underlining, kona cotton for lining, spiral steel boning and casing, 2"petersham ribbon for zipper guard and 1" petersham for waist stay, bar and hook closure on waist stay, rayon hem binding

What are you most proud of?

I'm very proud of the way this turned out--there is a lot of hand sewing, but it was worth it! I'd never made anything before that used boning or that had such a shaped bodice, and they really turned out nice! The lapped zipper and vented hem also turned out beautifully...I just need more reasons to wear this now!

I've been eyeing this print for a long time. I love how it looks in the bombshell dress. Really lovely work!

Thanks! I loved the pattern, but was a little worried about where the birds might end up : ) Luckily, it worked out that the pattern pieces didn't have seam allowances, because I could control what ended up where!
