Big Brother Blanket and Pillow

Pattern Info

Pattern info for this project can be found here:

Instructions

The original pattern is for one large, striped granny square. I used self striping yarn and made 12 smaller blocks to make a large afghan. A 13th square was stitched onto a cotton pillowcase to make a reversible pillow.

Difficulty:

Category: Crocheting

For: Boys

Materials

Soft, self striping, medium weight boucle yarn.

What was your inspiration?

My 8-year-old great-nephew is about to become a big brother for the first time. I'm making several items for the new baby and I want to make sure that the no-longer-only-child continues to feel loved and included.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

As I leaned with this project, crochet and boucle yarn are not a comfortable fit. The individual stitches tend to get lost in the fuzzy boucle. Working in a granny square is much easier than starting off with a long chain.
