What materials did you use? Silk blend fabric

The finished bias cut skirt. I used a banded hem finish which was what Lynda recommended. It is lined with a cotton/poly blend lining. The band is of knit with wide elastic in it. It sits on the hips since I don't like waistbands. I don't know if my picture is up with this one.....but I put a close up pic of the fabric near the hip band. The needle in my serger pulled threads in the silk....I am upset about this but only I will know it since it is tiny. But what should I do to reduce this risk. The needle was new and it is a universal. An 80 I think....probably too large.....ghahh
