What was your inspiration?

The book, One Block Wonder, Encore. I bought it for myself for Christmas, and while looking at it at work, a co-worker approached me to make her a quilt in her favorite colors - chocolate brown and teal.

What are you most proud of?

How amazing it worked out. The book gives you the foundation, but as each fabric creates such unique hexagons, the finished project will be different from one fabric to the next. I am also extremely proud of my back, and the pressing job I did. The local quilt shop owner called it a 'work of art', and many did not realize that this quilt was produced from so many little pieces! They thought the fabric was just that - a hunk of fabric, with cubes in it!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Create yourself a design wall! It was invaluable in the design process. I wish I had one for the tee shirt quilt instead of climbing up on the pool table!! I take a lot of pictures in the design process, then download them on the computer. It gives me a different perspective, and a guideline if I change something and then don't like it after all. Don't be afraid to change something - I tried to use extra hexes in the outer border, but upon viewing the overall result, I was not happy with the 'messy' appearance. I was able to remove them, and piece in the teal border, creating a much cleaner look.
