What was your inspiration?

It's difficult to find a wedding dress that fits when you're pregnant, let alone one that doesn't advertise the fact. When my friend announced that she was getting married, I offered to make her wedding dress as my present to the happy couple. Both she and her now husband are history buffs and so she decided on a Regency-style dress that not only reflects their shared love but also helps to conceal the fact that she was six months pregnant at the time.

What are you most proud of?

The waterfall of lace that panels the front of the overskirt. The original design didn't call for it and then we stumbled acrosss an off-cut of lace when we were buying the white satin for the underskirt and knew that it was perfect. It ended with a scalloped hem and I joined it to the two ends of the brushed cotton overskirt and gathered all of the lace in the gap between them so that it tumbles down to the hem.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't be afraid to deviate from the plan if you think something else will work better.
