I made this quilt to be used as the chuppah at my daughter's wedding. I tried to make it very personal for them, using their dog, car, friends, etc. in the quilt. It is made up of cotton quilting fabrics, some beads, and embroidery.
What was your inspiration?
I searched various websites for ideas. My husband and I taught ourselves paper piecing. I found the bride and groom patterns online. It took about a week to make each one. It was a beach wedding so we found the sunset online and we cut and pasted and appliqued the scene. There were six attendants and groomsmen so we paper pieced them and embroided their names underneath. The wedding creed offers some words of wisdom so I tried my hand at machine embroidery. I also taught myself how to machine quilt. I even tried to make a cobblestone road under the getaway car. It took six months in all but it is truly one of a kind and made a huge hit at the ceremony.
What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of how it all came together! When the florist hung it up, adding vines and flowers, it was spectacular!!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Have a love of quilting, love of creating, and keep focused on the end result. Keep learning new techniques as there's always room for improvement.
