What was your inspiration?

My friends were going to elope as they had both been married before & their family's both lived out of state. They asked us to be their witnesses (my husband, 2 kids & I) so of course we said yes. We'd already planned to take them out for dinner, but I wanted to do that little something more for them & what better than a Wedding Cake that represented their sense of humor. I looked online for some inspiration, but not finding what I had in mind, I made what you see in the photos. The leopard print that I hand painted (with food colouring) onto the fondant "blanket" is part of an ongoing joke between the couple, so you could say that the overall inspiration was the Bride & Groom themselves.

What are you most proud of?

Making this cake in 4 hours (only 2 hours before the actual wedding) & not letting onto anyone that I'd made it.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Just do it. Cake decorating isn't as hard as it looks. Fondant is almost like playing with play doh. Most people don't like to eat fondant (or sugar paste) but you can always make a marshmallow fondant that's really nice; there's plenty of recipes online. Make sure that you cover your cake with some icing to ensure that the crumbs get stuck before decorating.

I'm just a SAHM who likes to make things & I usually find some information to get me started on a project online, so if I can do it anyone can.

Go online & find inspiration & then work from there to make something unique that's all your own.
