Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Formal / Bridal, Romantic, Classic

Materials

Silk, lining, lace, sew-in interfacing, boning, corset tape, ribbon, thread, patience

What was your inspiration?

My inspiration was the venue, I wanted a dress that would reflect me and the type of wedding we were celebrating. Relaxed but timeless.

What are you most proud of?

I made a full muslin for the first time and made all the pattern alterations myself. I also used boning for the first time. I'm just super proud that it all came together in the end.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I wrote a post afterwards about everything I learn't during this process here: http://thecuriouskiwi.wordpress.com/2011/02/11/how-to-sew-your-own-wedding-dress/ but my biggest bit of advice is to just give it a go! You never know what you can accomplish until you try. Take your time, get advice from where ever you can and just throw yourself at it, you can do it ;-)
