What was your inspiration?
I made this pattern earlier the same year in a knee-length dress, and loved the ruffled collar and the fit of the dress. When I couldn't find the simple but distinctive wedding gown I was looking for for our outdoor wedding, I returned to this pattern and made the adjustments needed.
What are you most proud of?
My mom and I made this dress in the midst of a short, 9-week engagement! My fiance and I were set on an outdoor wedding at a specific venue, and there was only one fall date that worked for us and our bridal party. Within 2 weeks, my mom and I purchased the fabric, altered the pattern, and made the dress. We followed online DIY instructions for the birdcage veil. We just spent a few hundred dollars on my entire ensemble... a huge savings compared to most dresses and veils.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Start early! And make a muslin "practice" gown to ensure a good fit. We made many adjustments between the pattern, the practice gown, and the final gown.
