Instructions

I ended up making a neck wrap instead of a scarf because I was running out of yarn. Also: added picot edging not specified in the pattern.

Category: Knitting

For: Unisex

Style: Whimsical, Cute, Mod, Casual, Funky

Materials

Gypsy Wools "Texas Hand Dyed" 55% mohair, 45% wool; #6 knitting needles; purchased button; thread, velvet fabric (for facing) tapestry needle.

What was your inspiration?

I have made this one other time, for my sister (see Lower Crossing Sunset). You can see how different the pattern looks with a marbled coloration instead of a graduated one. I really like this pattern alot because it is simple but so distinctive and can lend itself to many looks.

What are you most proud of?

This took me awhile to work out because (1) I didn't know if I had enough yarn and (2) I realized partway through that the yarn was to scratchy to wear next to the skin. I ended up lining it with purple velvet. I went to my LYS for the button and wasn't disappointed, though I did then need to re-think my closure. I intended three buttonholes and smaller buttons, but this one sang out to me, so I finished it off with a twisted cord loop sewn from the underside. Stitching is covered up by the velvet facing.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

In the face of obstacles, persevere! It turned out different than I expected, but better.
