Instructions

Pattern by Jeannette Kitlan, from Quilt Almanac 2008.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Romantic, Retro / Vintage

Materials

Reproduction 1930s fabrics, new & vintage fabrics (some of the latter from a second-hand shop!), polyester batting, and a bed sheet.

What was your inspiration?

I was moving country, from a small town in California to London, to be with my partner & I wanted to make something for our new home. I also wanted an excuse to learn how to quilt!

What are you most proud of?

This is my first quilt. I'm proud of the color combinations and the fact that we use it every summer.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Start with a smaller quilt! My quilt turned out to be a king size quilt (I made a rookie mistake in cutting--adding an 1/4" to each square) and it was a bit daunting when it came time to finishing it. So much so that I delayed finishing it by 6 months.

Impressive first quilt! I haven't made one set on-point yet.

Good job on your first quilt. I hid mine, but still have it.

I remember seeing it! Got to keep it nonetheless.
